By Valdemir Mota de Menezes, the scribe:
Almost every school has a garden area, or beds of land that can be used as a laboratory. Even that does not have the floor space to do experiments on seed germination, we can improvise on terraces, or setting pots on walls and outer walls of the classroom. We can do the following experiment:
Divide the class into several groups and each group will cultivate different seeds, group members should regularly monitor the germination and growth of seeds.
It is recommended that the vase to plant (can be pet bottle) is transparent so that students can also follow the growth of roots.
Each group must plant seeds under different conditions of light, water and soil, some seeds exposed to too much light, the other almost no light. Other copious irrigation and other almost without water, likewise some seeds should be planted in sandy soil and clay soil in others.
Students will regularly photographed plant growth and the plants will take measures. At the end of the research period, each group will present a paper describing the influence of light, water and soil in seed development.
This work will develop skills and techniques of agronomy. At the end the teacher will show the importance of agronomic knowledge that today support the sustainability of food production for the billions of human beings.
